Young Carers
"At Costessey Primary School, we are proud of our Young Carers."
At Costessey Primary School, young carers are highly valued for their resilience, dedication, and ability to balance school life with their caregiving responsibilities at home. Staff members are trained to identify young carers and provide a safe, understanding environment and everyone within our school works to create an inclusive and supportive atmosphere that empowers young carers. This commitment helps them feel seen, respected, and capable of thriving both in school and in their caring roles at home.
A young carer is someone aged under 18 that cares for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, cannot cope without their support. They might have to help with practical tasks like cooking and shopping, physical care such as helping someone out of bed, or other responsibilities typically not carried out by children. It could also be that the person they are caring for doesn't require additional support but the emotional impact of this affects the child's daily life and ability to engage in extra curricular activities.
More information about Young Carers can be found in the links section below. If you think your child might be a Young Carer, please contact the Pastoral Team.
